Martin Luther King Speaks To Move To Amend

Martin Luther King, Jr's rich legacy of seeking justice through non-violence speaks to our values at Move to Amend. 

We can only speculate how our collective destiny may have been altered had King not been assassinated. Would he be railing against the corporate corruption of our country? 

From his April 4, 1967 "Beyond Vietnam" speech:

“When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, militarism and economic exploitation are incapable of being conquered." 

It is hard to imagine that King would not have joined the broad forces opposing the imbalance of power in our government and economic systems. 

It is ironic that on this day in which we celebrate King’s life, we also observe the third anniversary of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. 

While this anniversary reminds us that the threat to our democracy is very real, our job is to raise the level of understanding among our friends, networks and in our communities with the message that overturningCitizens United alone will not fix the problem of corporate control. 

The necessary resolution is the Move to Amend constitutional amendment to get corporations out of control of our government and legal system, and money out of our politics.
