DESCRIPTION:\n	\n YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS THIS THEATER PRESENTATION!\
n\n AN EVENING OF SONGS\, STORIES AND SOLIDARITY\n\n PERFORMED BY TOM KA
	STLE\, SINGER\, ACTOR\, STORYTELLER\n	\n\n	\n This event is free and open
to the public (donations appreciated)\n	\n\n	\n Joe Hill was a labor org
anizer and songwriter for the Industrial Workers of the World\, founded in
1905. He believed in the IWW mantra that men and women of all races and n
ations could work together to “change the unequal conditions of society
through legitimate direct action.” His tool for uniting people was music
and the power of song. He was one of the most influential protest artists
of the 20th century\, and if Joe Hill were around today\, he’d still fi
nd plenty to protest.\n	\n\n	\n Folksinger Tom Kastle’s performance of
the musical play\, Joe Hill\, Alive as You and Me\, celebrates the legacy
of the martyred poet and labor leader. The tone is set by the script’s o
	pening lines:\n	\n\n	\n		 \n	\n\n	\n On November 19\, 1915\, a man named
Joe Hill was shot by firing squad in Salt Lake City\, Utah—his crime? W
	riting songs!\n	\n\n	\n What follows\, described by the show’s creator
as “an evening of songs\, stories\, and solidarity\,” is a remarkable
	70-minute collective experience.\n	\n\n	\n See less\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n

n Cris Plata was born in South Texas\, the son of migrant workers. Those
early days of living in different migrant camps and following the harvest
from region to region exposed Cris to a wide range of musical experiences.
While Cris and Ann have made their home in Wisconsin\, the couple’s per
formance borrows much from Cris’s heritage and musical diversity. He des
cribes his style as Mexican roots music\, borrowing from norteno\, conjunt
o and ranchera music. Cris’s life and musical partner Ann Plata is the b
ass player and backing vocalist for the duo. She received her rhythm educa
tion on the stage\, in \"real time\" while playing with the great drummer
Clyde Stubblefield.\n	\n\n	\n With all of these influences\, how do we de
scribe Cris Plata's music in a nutshell? Perhaps we will have to borrow th
e term Tex-Mex and redefine it. \"Tex\" would now stand for Texas singer-s
ongwriters and \"Mex\" would stand for Mexican roots music. However\, do n
ot let this definition alone form your impression of his music. Come to th
	e concert and the best definition will be your own. \n	\n\n	\n \n	\n\n	\

ord was formed originally as a duo in 2015 by singer/songwriters and multi
-instrumentalists Michael Bryant and Tracy Jane Comer\, who were members o
f the former Madison-area trio Sticky Fingers (early to mid-2000s). The tw

n\n\n	Come join us for an in person concert with \"The Honey Pies\" at the
Farley Center under the Bur Oak Welcoming Area (BOWA ). \n\n\n\n	\n		 \
	n	\n	https://www.honeypiesmusic.com/\n\n\n\n	“If you've never seen The H
oney Pies\, or haven't in a while\, treat yourself. Every time I hear Jodi
	 sing\, I pick myself back up from the floor and think\, \"Right. That's w
hat the real thing sounds like.\" And this is the band she was born to sin
g with. Songs that remind you why music has always carried us from one gen
eration to the next\, in harmonies that will make you smile and say\, \"Yu
	p. That's what I needed.\" Homegrown Americana\, nurtured right here in th
e Driftless. So come one in\, grab yourself a drink\, and feed your soul
.” Michael Broh\, Slowpoke Lounge &amp\; Cabaret\n\n\n\n	The Honey Pies
is an exciting collaboration of Madison-based music veterans. Jodi Jean Am
ble made a major splash in the Chicago scene fronting her eponymous band
—nominally jazz\, but equally at home with pop\, country\, and more—an
d as a member of the highly eclectic ensemble Jenny Dragon. Tom Waselchuk
leads the MAMA Award-winning Americana band The Dang-Its and has performed
for more than twenty years in a free-swinging guitar duo with multi-instr
umentalist Doug Brown. Doug has long been among the most in-demand freelan
ce sidemen on the Madison music scene in a variety of genres\, as well as
being a band-leader\, composer\, and arranger. Matt Rodgers is among south
ern Wisconsin’s busiest bass players\, equally at home in most any style
of music. \n\n\n\n	Displaying a formidable range of musical backgrounds
and notable depth of experience\, The Honey Pies apply crystal vocal harmo
nies and virtuoso instrumental skills to the best of traditional\, contemp
orary\, and original Americana music.\n\n\n\n	“The four members of The H
oney Pies are all terrific musicians in their own right\, but together the
ir musicality shoots to new heights. The sound is free-spirited but amazin
gly focused and precise. And what a range of styles! This is not your typi
cal country-folk band!” — Nancy Cullen\, Rural Musicians Forum\, Touch
stone Theatre \n\n\n\n	“The Honey Pies have already been dubbed a fan f
avorite by our patrons. Although their covers are beautifully performed\,
where they truly shine is with their original music. The musicians are som
e of Madison's finest and the stage banter is adorable. The Honey Pies can
make an intimate concert space come alive or fill a large performing arts
center with their non-stop energy.” — Lindsey Giese\, River Arts Cent
	er\, Prairie du Sac WI\n\n\n\n	Jodi Jean Amble – “Elegant\, subtlety s
exy and composed\, Jodi sounds and looks great on stage and literally has
the crowd howling from her first song on. Her voice is inviting and draws
the audience to her.” Randy Freedman\, Chicago Jazz Magazine\n\n\n\n	Tom
Waselchuk — “I was blown away by his performance last night. I consid
er them among the best musicians we have had on our stage.” Marv Nielsen
\, Blackhawk Folk Society\n\n\n\n	Doug Brown — \"Brown handles an acoust
ic guitar like a master. His jazzy style is characterized by amazing finge
	r-picking skill.\" Folk &amp\; Acoustic Music Exchange\n\n\n\n	We encourag
e attendees to come early or stay late and take a walk through the Natural
